Welcome to the Office of Online Learning’s Proctoring service! We are here for your proctoring needs: both online and on USM’s Hattiesburg and Gulf Park Campuses. Our proctoring service is not a walk-in service and an exam cannot be made on the phone or through email. An application + fee must be submitted through a proctoring portal below.
If you plan to test at Scianna Hall, please do not fill out a proctoring application on this site.
Attention: Students should not fill out an application to take exams through Examity.
Requirements
All proctoring fees must be paid at the time the application is submitted. Payments can be made by debit / credit card only. Fees cannot be charged to student accounts.
Be aware of proctoring deadlines. Please note: you must schedule a proctored exam 3-4 (depending on proctoring site deadlines listed below) business days before testing day or a late fee will be charged.
All students must provide a photo ID before testing. Examples include; school ID, driver’s license, or government issued ID.
Campus Parking. If you do not have a valid USM parking pass, please obtain a visitor’s pass by visiting this .
Cancellations. If you need to cancel your exam with the Office of Online Learning, please call 601-266-5518 or 601-266-5598 or send an email to eddie.goinsFREEMississippi or Vanessa.mccullumFREEMississippi.
How to Apply for Proctoring
- You must allow a minimum of three (3) business days before the requested examination date. Weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and holidays do not count as working days. This will ensure there is ample time to process your application and to forward exam information to the approved proctors. Examples: If an application is submitted on Wednesday, you will schedule your exam no earlier than the following Tuesday. If you submit your application on a weekend, you will need to schedule your exam no earlier than Thursday of the upcoming week.
- A $30 late fee will be charged if an application is submitted late and must be paid up-front before your proctoring application will be processed. The late fee is in addition to the $10 exam fee.
- You may schedule up to three (3) exams per course at one time. The fee is $10 per exam. If you list three (3) exams, your total will be $30. Please note: this does not mean you can choose 3 dates and time for one exam. Only one exam per chosen date and time is allowed.
- Photo ID is required to take an exam. Examples include; school ID, driver’s license, or government issued ID.
- Personal laptops, tablets, or smart watches are not permitted to be used for testing.
- USM Faculty or Staff, please use the application link for Faculty and Staff ONLY.
- If you’re taking your exam at Scianna Hall, you do not have to make an appointment nor schedule through the Office of Online Learning.

Proctored exams will be given in the Gulf Coast Library, Room 210.

It is the primary responsibility of the student taking the course to obtain a proctor, schedule appointment with proctor, and fill out the for approval.
- Locate an acceptable proctor
- Acceptable proctors include:
- University, Community College, or College Testing Centers
- A public library (if proctoring services are available and they can to monitor you)
- A testing/tutoring facility (No K-12 facilities)
- Students in the military may contact the Education or Testing Officer (if at sea, the ship’s captain).
- Students in foreign countries may contact a U.S. Embassy for assistance or a College or University in that country
- Non-acceptable proctors include:
- Supervisors
- Co-workers
- Family members
- Relatives (close or distant)
- Personal friends
- K-12 Employees/Teachers
- No institution other than those listed above (this includes medical facilities, law firms, and the like.)
- Acceptable proctors include:
- Contact your chosen proctor to ensure availability prior to listing them on your application.
- The Application must include the proctor’s first & last name, job title, place of employment, and an email address (NO PERSONAL EMAIL: Please make sure you get the correct email) & phone number (NO CELL PHONES) associated with the testing site.
- Let your chosen proctor know that our office will send a Verification Form to them that will need to be completed and returned to our office before they will be approved to proctor your exam.
- You must present a Photo ID to the Proctor (Driver’s License, Government Issued ID, USM ID).
- You must allow a minimum of three (3) business days before the requested examination date.

Virtual Proctoring Within Canvas
51¶şÄĚ Miss is partnering with ® to assist you in your proctoring needs for your online classes. Scheduling appointments is done through your Canvas course. This provides another option for distance students who can’t meet at a proctoring center.
- System requirements for Examity includes access to a high speed Internet connection, built in or external working, webcam and microphone.
- Pricing for Examity is
- "Live Premium" $18.00 for the first hour and $10.00 for each additional hour plus tax.
- "Live Standard" $15.00 for first hour and $8.00 for each additional hour plus tax.
- Scheduling must be complete one (1) day (24 hours) prior to the end of the exam. If you are scheduling less than 24 hours in advance, you must select the “On-Demand” scheduling option at a cost of $5.00 extra.
- Scheduling a virtual proctor should be done through the Canvas course rather than the Examity website. Additional information can be found on the Examity page.

Faculty members must provide necessary proctoring information to students including cost, exam dates and on-campus testing information.

FIRST DATE FOR PROCTORED EXAMS
No proctored exams are to be scheduled or required before the third (3rd) week of
the class during fall and spring semesters. No proctored exam should be scheduled
before the second (2nd) week for summer semester. This time period is needed for students
to submit their applications for examination by proctor, and for identifying and approving
proctors, and the verification of exam dates.
DEADLINE FOR EXAM DOCUMENTS AND DATES TO PROCTOR
The Office of Online Learning proctoring services no longer accept paper-based exams.
The Office of Online Learning offers assistance in the process of creating exams and
setting up proctor passwords in Canvas. If you need assistance, please contact Susan
Rayborn at 601.266.6589.
All instructors must submit a password/instruction document(s) for each online exam(s) no later that the tenth (10th) working day of the semester. The password/instruction document should include the date(s) the exam is to be given, time allotted to take the exam, navigation to the exam and any instructions as to what students may have with them during the exam. If you would like a sample document, one can be provided to you by the proctor.
ON-CAMPUS STUDENTS
Instructors should designate a date, time, and classroom location for their exam to
be offered on-campus, administered by you, and advise their students of this information.
The Office of Online Learning will provide proctoring services for on-campus or local students in the case of an emergency or if a class or work schedule conflicts with the time the exam is scheduled with you, the instructor.
These students will be charged a $10 processing fee and are subject to the late fee if applicable. This same service is offered for our 51¶şÄĚ Miss Gulf Coast students at the Gulf Park Campus in Long Beach, MS.
ONLINE STUDENTS
Students who are online are responsible for locating an appropriate proctor. All online
students will submit their application to the proctor in the Office of Online Learning
for approval and processing.
STUDENTS WHO REQUIRE DISABILITY ACCOMMODATIONS
It is the responsibility of the faculty member to provide modified instructions for
students with disability accommodations. These accommodations must be met when students
are taking an exam. Students can choose to be proctored through the Office of Disability
Located on the second floor (east) of Scianna Hall, the College of Business and Economic Development Testing Center can accommodate over 80 business students.

To schedule an exam with the Student Accessibility Services (SAS), you must be registered with us and have Alternative Testing Accommodations.
SAS recommends that students schedule exams at least two (2) business days in advance. This is to ensure testing space and exam availability. For students testing at the Gulf Park location, you must allow a minimum of four (4) days before the requested examination date,

All USM students, regardless of location, will be charged the $10 proctoring fee per exam. Payment is due at the time the application is submitted.
If you use a testing center, there may be separate proctor fees associated with that particular site. In this case, it is the student’s responsibility to pay those fees.
The same guidelines apply for Non-USM students in need of proctored exams. It is up to the student to contact their education institution if proctoring services are required. Our office does not contact them for you. The fee for Non-USM students is $20 per exam. The late fee is $30.
Pricing for Examity is $18.00 for the first hour and $10.00 for each additional hour.
